During the talk, Dr. Cao shared his entrepreneurial journey — from conducting machine learning research in Japan to founding Machine Imagination Technologies (MITECH) in 2018.
The company focuses on developing machine learning systems for quality inspection across various industries such as semiconductors, bottles, tablets, and hard disks. One of the major challenges is obtaining real-world data from customers, so we built simulated datasets and optimized our models to handle even rare cases. When deploying our systems, we always emphasize balancing accuracy, speed, hardware constraints, and seamless factory integration, rather than relying solely on cloud solutions or open-source tools.
Currently, MITECH is strongly focused on real-time image processing, algorithm optimization, and maintaining system stability under strict production environments. Starting with a single client — a hard disk inspection equipment manufacturer — we have since expanded to serve customers in wafer inspection, optical measurement, and medical devices, while growing our engineering teams in both Japan and Vietnam.
Dr. Cao also encouraged students to set their goals on becoming world-class engineers — strong in theory, proficient in practical skills, and enriched with real-world manufacturing experience.
